Why We Love Living in Lakeway
Pretty to look at, a mild climate, and of course Lake Travis... all good reasons to live in Lakeway. Originally known as a premier golf, tennis and lake resort, Lakeway offers much more including a wonderful family atmosphere and great schools. Lakeway is where small town charm, sophisticted style and a relaxed lifestyle all come together!
Homes and real estate are surprisingly affordable for one of Texas's most beautiful resort areas. From condos and townhomes in the $200,000's to classic 1970's chic stone ranch style homes in the $300,000's, and from new Tuscan inspired villas in the $500,000's to waterfront estates fit for a king and priced from $1,000,000... real estate in Lakeway is a great value compared to other areas with similar amenities.
Home buyers will find a variety of housing styles and a wide price range, with something for everyone. Lake view properties and lake front real estate command a premium, with Lakeway lakefront starting at about $1,000,000. If you don't mind a pretty drive, Lake Travis waterfront homes 30 minutes out of town are substantially less.
Lakeway was established in 1963 primarily as a weekend destination for recreation loving "city folks". Later many of those original Lakeway property owners chose to retire in their lake homes. Eventually the lifestyle and natural beauty of the area, combined with a highly rated public school system encouraged familes to flock to the area. The result is a healthy mix of working familes, retirees, singles and vacation home owners.

As you would imagine with a lake community, boating, fishing and all water sports are hugely popular. “Cruise up” restaurants, 4th of July water fireworks displays, Christmas Light Boat Parade, and New Year’s Sailboat Races are a few of the events that celebrate the local resident’s love of boating. The clear turquoise waters of Lake Travis feel almost tropical in the summer, with 80+ degree water temperatures.
With 300 days of sunshine annually and a temperate climate, the residents of Lakeway and Lake Travis enjoy
year round outdoor sports and activities.
Lakeway has several wonderful parks and greenbelts, terrific for walking. Lakeway City Park, waterfront on Lake Travis, has hiking trails, play areas for kids, picnic areas, a dog park, walking trails and a sandy swimming beach. Smaller parks scattered throughout the residential areas have playgrounds for the tots and playing fields for all ages. And the trees! Whatever land is not developed is covered with trees. There are thousands of acres of reserve land that provide a gorgeous green backdrop.
The Lakeway area is Golf Heaven! Undulating throughout the residential neighborhoods are four golf courses: Live Oak (18 holes), Yaupon (18 holes) The Hills (36 holes), home of the Kinko's Classic, and Flintrock Falls (36 holes). A membership in the Lakeway Country Club allows access to all four. Just a few miles away in Bee Cave is Falconhead (18 holes, public). For those looking to improve their skills, the Academy of Golf in The Hills is one of the most advanced golf instruction facilities in the nation. more about Lakeway golf
Lakeway even has a private dawn-to-dusk airpark/airport within the residential area, featuring homes with their own hangars. Lakeway Airpark is open to all private pilots, and memberships are available for residents and property owners in Lake Travis school disctrict. No commercial operations and a 12.500 lb limit applies. Flying in from the coast for a golf tournament or weekend getaway is as simple as that!
What really makes living in Lakeway special is the people! There is a real sense of community and small town friendliness. Lakeway residents love their town, love to shop in the local stores (there are some fabulous ones) and support local charities and schools. Lakeway folks will wave hello whether they know you or not, are the friendliest people I’ve met, and will make you feel at home in no time.
